LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It has had financial ups and downs in its short history, but if this week is any indication things are looking up for the KFC Yum! Center.

Wednesday night, the light and music extravaganza that is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra brought a huge crowd downtown and this week is only getting better with some major acts headed to the city.

"It's really good for the KFC Yum! Center to have 13 events in 14 days," said Dennis Petrullo, the arena's manager.

Jam packed with hot tickets, KFC Yum! Center saw a sold out crowd for Saturday's University of Louisville men's basketball followed Sunday night by one of country music's biggest names as Keith Urban hit the stage. Then Wednesday night, Bardstown husband and wife Marlis and Jeff Sweeney made the drive to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The couple has been to many concert venues but tell us, the KFC Yum! Center is "Second to none," said Marlis Sweeney.

"The seating is really good here," said Jeff Sweeney, "and to me it didn't really seem like there was a bad seat."

The acts only get bigger. Thursday Mrs. Carter is at the Yum! Beyonce's appearance is causing such a stir even the students at Lincoln Elementary or LPAS have put together a video inviting the triple threat to their school before the show to see Louisville's artists of the future. It' gotten more than 10,000 hits on Youtube.

"We're selling tickets and the grosses we've had this week are well over $1million each show that we're doing," said Petrullo of the excitement.

Financially it's great for downtown hotels and restaurants and huge for the KFC Yum! Center. Petrullo said this stretch will be the most profitable time since the arena opened its doors. It includes more UofL men's and women's basketball on Saturday before Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience World Tour makes a stop here Sunday.

Word spreads fast among top artists and their managers who apparently want to play in the shiny new high tech building.

"Rolling Stone Magazine questioned the artists and rated the top ten buildings in the United States," said Petrullo, "and this was just artists and industry people voting and the KFC Yum! Center ranked #4 and there were two baseball stadiums in front of us."

What's next? We know Kings of Leon, Miley Cyrus and Cher are among the acts coming in 2014. As for the Garth Brooks comeback tour, Petrullo said they've already looked into it. It's stiff competition with bigger cities, but he tells WAVE 3 News at the very least, they'll get Garth Brooks on the second round of that tour.
