LYON COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

The driver of a semi truck died Thursday after suffering a heart attack and hitting a tree.

According to Kentucky State Police, the crash happened on westbound Interstate 24 at the 49 mile marker.

The coroner on the scene said it is believed the driver, Brian Lee Schuetz of Illinois, suffered a massive heart attack while driving. The truck then left the road and struck a tree.

Schuetz was taken to Caldwell County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday December 12th, 2013 Kentucky State Police responded to a collision with injuries on Interstate 24 at the 49 mm off the westbound shoulder.  Upon arrival Trooper Over observed a semi tractor trailer that had left the travel portion of Interstate 24 and struck a tree.  The driver of the semi, Brian Lee Schuetz of Illinois, was transported by Lyon County EMS to Caldwell County Medical Center.  Mr. Schuetz was pronounced deceased by the ER Doctor at Caldwell County Medical Center. The coroner did note the absence of any trauma or injuries to the victim. It is believed the driver suffered a massive heart attack while driving, but was able to steer the semi off the Interstate.  Trooper Billy Over was assisted by Lyon County Sheriff's Department, Lyon County EMS, Lyon County Rescue, Eddyville Fire Department, and the Lyon County Coroner.  Investigation continues by Trooper Billy Over.
