Rudolph's Red Nose Run helps those in need

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Many people put on their running shoes and red noses Friday night to raise money for local families.

The 33rd annual Rudolph's Red Nose Run 5K took place in downtown.

While it might look like a fun excuse to dress up for the holidays, it's really a way to help a neighbor.

All the money raised from the run will go to Needlink Nashville, a group that helps area families and seniors who might be without heat or housing during the winter months.

"We get a lot of calls from assistance people that are maybe struggling during the holidays. Well,  they take those funds to buy Christmas toys," said Jamie Brigham, a Needlink Nashville board member. "Then post-Christmas, they need assistance and that's why we step up and help those families."

The run was originally scheduled for last Friday but was moved to today because of the weather.
