Richmond Police investigating overnight homicide

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Richmond Police Department confirms a homicide investigation was launched after a man was found dead early Saturday morning.

According to police, at approximately 12:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Second Avenue for a report of shots fired. Once on scene, officers found a young male, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, described only as a black male in his early 20's, was found in the side yard of a house in that block of Second Avenue. He was transported to VCU Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this case to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Your tip is anonymous.
