Mayor Cannon speaks at airport about Washington Trip

Posted: Updated:

Charlotte Major Patrick Cannon spoke at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Saturday afternoon about his trip to the nation's capital.

Cannon joined 15 other newly-elected mayors in Washington, D.C. on Friday for a meeting with President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden.

Each mayor was invited to speak about their priorities for the cities they represent.

In a statement from the Office of the Mayor, it said Cannon urged leaders at the federal level to help Charlotte seek funding for "initiatives that bring manufacturing jobs and support transportation in our community and region,"

President Obama wants to work with the mayors to provide an environment that makes them key job creation hubs.

The president says next week's Senate passage of a House-approved budget will help metropolitan areas by removing uncertainty created in the economy.
