SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Haywood City woman was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Cassandra L. Gipson, 27, was charged with four counts of the Class C felony of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree.

Sheriff Walter said a deputy working a joint investigation with the Missouri Department of Social Services, Children's Division, went to a local school on Friday, Dec. 13 to investigate a report of injuries to a child resulting from abuse or neglect.

As a result, investigators went to the home in Haywood City to check the living conditions there. Investigators discovered enough evidence for the Children's Division to remove four juveniles from the home.

According to Sheriff Walter, Gipson was not present at the home when investigators arrived. When the school was contacted and informed that the Children's Division would be taking custody of the children at the end of the school day, investigators learned that Gipson had already picked them up and left the school.

A deputy found Gipson and the four children at a home in Sikeston, Mo. on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Gipson was arrested and the children were taken into custody to be placed with other family members.

Sheriff Walter said the investigation is ongoing, and his office is looking into other family members who may be involved.

The sheriff asks that anyone who has information about any crime to contact the Scott County Sheriff's Office at 545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.
