LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -

Police said a man dressed in an elf outfit when pulled over by officers was arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated.

The Lafayette Police Department reported Brandon Touchet, 34, of Lafayette, was charged with OWI (operating while intoxicated) during a traffic stop early Sunday morning. Reports indicate he was dressed as a Christmas elf at the time.

The arrest affidavit stated Touchet was stopped around 2:35 a.m. for allegedly driving 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. Officers said after getting out of his vehicle, he had trouble keeping his balance.

They noted he had bloodshot eyes and his speech was slurred. Officers stated Touchet told them he had drank alcohol while at a Christmas party.

According to police, a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was .124. In addition to OWI, Touchet was also charged with excessive speeding.

He was released from jail after posting a $1,500 bond.
