12/27/13 -Family Ties

Yet another Christmas has come and gone, and if your family is like mine you created some lasting memories. Some were fun and some were maybe...well, not so much.

As a father of two it is always fun to watch them open their gifts. However, it is not so endearing when I'm the receiver of the much repeated task of opening the packages. Now I'm not talking about tearing into wrapping paper and the bows, that is always fun. I'm talking about the packaging that insures that every little piece of every little toy is eternally attached to the box it came in. If you have children, you know what I'm talking about. As I undid what seemed like millions of those little twisty ties, I mumbled a few things under my breath and unfortunately some aloud, that weren't necessarily in the traditional Christmas spirit.

But as we went to our last family get together and I was faced with the final twisty tie, it clicked. That little piece of plastic wrapped wire did its job. It held things together until the bitter end. Sort of like that one person in every family that holds it all together. You know the one I'm talking about. When the dinner burns or when the tree falls over, we all have that one friend or family member that steps up and says "calm down, it's all right. We can scrape the crust off the turkey" or "relax, that tree had to come down at some point anyway".

So with that in mind, as we put another Christmas behind us, take a moment to decide who your families' human twisty tie is, and show your appreciation. They hold it all together.
