GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

With less than two days left until Christmas, most of the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia are seeing lingering rain before the cold weather returns.

FOX Carolina Meteorologist Ted Phaeton said the rain will linger around for the first half of Monday and will move out by the afternoon.

More than 2 inches of rain has fallen during the past two days and some areas could have seen upwards of 4 inches. In Greenville County, all of that rain left some areas a little drenched, including Tanner Road. The road was partially flooded near Riddle Road Monday morning.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of the area until noon Monday, according to Phaeton.

Cooler air will settle in behind the cold front, bringing mostly sunny skies for Tuesday and the rest of the week.

The temperatures will start to decline from the upper 50s for the Upstate and mid-50s in the Mountains Monday, Phaeton said. Lows will reach the mid-30s for the Upstate and upper-20s for western North Carolina overnight, much different than the past few days.

The sun returns Tuesday and sticks around. Christmas Day will see highs in the mid-40s across the Upstate and upper-30s for the mountains.
