The Lee County Sheriff's Department is still recovering from a traffic stop last week that ended with two deputies shot.

The Sheriff's Department had planned a department-wide counseling session for Monday, but it was been postponed with Cpl. Shante Demary still in the hospital.

Sgt. Leroy Durant was released from the hospital after being shot once in the abdomen during a struggle with a man who fired several rounds at him and Demary after a traffic stop near Bishopville Thursday, Simon said.

Demary was shot twice in the leg and is still recovering at a Columbia hospital Sunday, Simon said.

The department has had a traumatic year with the deaths of two officers and a member of the office staff. Sheriff Daniel Simon says while deputies are trained to deal with these types of incidents, when officers respond to an incident involving their own, it's traumatic for all involved.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is still investigating the shooting.

Officials say 52-year-old Yahchanan Christopher Reames remains in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center without bond.
