CHRISTIANA, TN (WSMV) -

A Rutherford County family will have a lot to deal with this new year after flames tore through their Christiana home on Christmas Eve, burning it to the ground.

Kevin Clark was one of the first to see the blaze on Blankenship Road and call the fire department.

"By the time they actually got started on it, it was gone, it gutted the whole house," Clark said.

Family and neighbors say the couple who lived there was out of town, but their teenage daughter could very well have been inside.

"The youngest daughter was supposed to have been there and we were afraid that she was in the house, but they got to hunting around and found her, and she was in Murfreesboro with some friends, so that's good. At least we didn't lose nobody," Clark said.

Crews had to bring water in by truck because there weren't any fire hydrants.

"They had a propane tank mounted on the side of the building, side of the back of the house. And when the lines cut loose on it, it started blowing a flame. I thought we were going to lose some of the firefighters, but they handled it real well," Clark said.

The fire department says the house is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time, but investigators are looking into a car that was parked in the driveway that they say did not belong to the family.

The Sheriff's Office made routine checks on the house Wednesday, making sure there were no new flare-ups. Family members also stopped by to see what could be salvaged.

"Wish there was more we could do for them," Clark said.
