TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Police located a cab driver who is considered a person of interest in a New Year's Day homicide on Tucson's south side.

It happened in a neighborhood near Campbell and Sunland Vista. Tucson Police said it began as a street fight and led to a deliberate hit and run that killed two people.

TPD released new details, stating that at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning a Yellow Cab dropped off a man and a woman on East Sunland Vista. The department received multiple calls about the two people being involve in a physical altercation, according to a news release.

Authorities said a witness who called 911 stopped to intervene. The man exited his vehicle and officials said he and the suspect got into a physical fight. The man had a woman in the passenger seat who then got out of the car.

Police said the suspect then got into the man's car and used it as a weapon to run over the three victims multiple times, then fled the scene and later abandoned the vehicle after crashing into a tree.

Cindy Burnett, 46, died at the scene. Investigators confirmed she was an official with the Tohono O'odham Attorney General's office. Police said she was last seen at the Junxion bar on E. Congress Street around 2 a.m. and was picked up by the cab. Patrick Balbastro, 32, died at a hospital and his 43-year-old girlfriend, who was his passenger, is in critical condition, authorities said.

The vehicle TPD believes was involved in the hit and run was found in a desert area just west of Campbell Ave. and Sunland Vista. Officers are still searching for the suspect.

Wednesday night TPD questioned a man in relation to the case, but he is not being called a suspect. So far no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
