Firefighters are still working to put out a fire at an apartment building in downtown Augusta.

The fire started early Friday morning at a building at 12th and Broad streets.

Volunteers with the Red Cross are offering help to residents of the apartment building.

Four units were occupied in the building, said Jennifer Pennington, executive director of the American Red Cross of Augusta. The Red Cross is assisting one family.

"We also have volunteers on the scene giving out coffee and water," Pennington said.

Any other families who need assistance can call the Red Cross at 706-724-8481.
