TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Underground waterline work could affect traffic in a west side area for the next few months, according to a City of Tucson news release.

Fiber optic acoustic monitoring equipment is being replaced by Tucson Water, both on at 66" water main under Greasewood Road, as well as on a 48" water main under 3rd Avenue.

The pipelines will be ‘dewatered' according to the release, which will require traffic and parking restrictions at several locations, in order for crews to access manholes.

There will be barricades placed in the following locations:

- Greasewood Rd. and Starr Pass Blvd., south side

- Greasewood Rd. and Anklam Rd. intersection

- Greasewood Rd., various shoulder locations

- 3rd Ave., between 5th and 6th Streets and between 7th and 8th Streets

- 3rd Ave and University Blvd., northeast corner

- 3rd Ave., north of Mabel St.

- 3rd Ave., north of 1st St.

The project is scheduled to start Jan. 6 and run until March 3.  Exact dates and times for parking and traffic restrictions are not known at this time, and will vary according to the work required.

Tucson Water will also perform any necessary internal pipeline repairs. Staff, contractors, and equipment will be at various locations at different times. Precautions will be taken to prevent water from entering roadways. Motorists are asked to drive carefully to help ensure worker safety.
