COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Former Gamecocks wide receiver and current Chicago Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery will make his NFL Pro Bowl debut in the annual game a week before the Super Bowl.

Jeffery, 23, was initially not named to the Pro Bowl, but he will replace Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson in the Jan. 26 game, according to the team.

The former St. Matthews stand out has emerged this season as one of the NFL's best receivers, racking up 1,421 yards receiving and scoring seven touchdowns.

Jeffery was taken in the second round by the Bears in the 2012 NFL Draft after three years with South Carolina.

At South Carolina, he was known as one of many go-to receivers, gaining just over 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns in his collegiate career.
