Two arrested following shootout with police in Holyoke

Posted: Updated:
HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

Friday night, the Holyoke Police Department confirmed they were looking for two individuals, one who opened fire on a detective after responding to a separate shots fired call.

Saturday night, those two people were under arrest.

The incident happened near the intersection of South Elm and Congress streets around 10:15 p.m. on Friday.

Police told CBS 3 that the suspects are Pedro Arroyo, 22, of Holyoke and a 17-year-old juvenile, who is also a Holyoke resident.

They said the two failed to comply with the officer's commands.

One then pointed a gun and began firing, striking the detective's car several times.

The detective also fired back.

No one was struck by any of the gunfire.

Police said the juvenile suspect was detained at the scene, while Arroyo was found hiding under a back porch on Main Gates Street.

Arroyo is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Both will be arraigned on Monday.
