LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

A woman missing for days is now the focus of a search after a man she lives with was found dead in their home.

It started as a welfare call to check on 19-year-old Sarah Brooke Gonzales McLinn, who hasn't been in touch with her friends and family since the middle of last week.

Her family asked Lawrence police to check on her Friday night.

Instead, investigators found 52-year-old Harold M. Sasko's body about midnight Friday at West 26th Street and Lawrence Avenue.

They say he had suffered a traumatic injury and they're calling it a homicide.

"We did have a violent incident. We don't know who is responsible for that," Sgt. Trent McKinley said.

Now, police want to find McLinn.

"Whether she is a victim, a witness, a suspect or none of the above," McKinley said. He said that McLinn could be in danger.

Those who know Sasko are in mourning. He owned a company that managed CiCi's pizza stores in Lawrence and Topeka. McLinn worked at one of the CiCi's stores and lived with Sasko.

"He (Sasko) was a mentor, a teacher and a giver with a heart as big as gold. His heart was shared here in our local Topeka and Lawrence communities as well. Many were touched by his kindness and generosity as a business man and pizza franchisee," Kim Qualls, spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Transportation, wrote on her personal Facebook page. "Hal is now gone, taken from us too early, killed by the hands of an unknown individual. He did not deserve this, no one does. My wish in remembering this great man day this day, is that the violence would STOP and that we would all choose to help others, to help those who need our help, just as Hal Sasko did. Hal, you shall never be forgotten my dear friend. Infectious smiles, just like yours, you'll bring when we think of you on this day."

Gayland Lilienkamp says he hasn't seen a crime scene in his neighborhood in his 27 years.

"Living this close, it is kind of eerie," he said.

Other neighbors say the people who lived there mostly kept to themselves and they are saddened and shaken by what has happened.

"My mind is blown. I definitely knew there was something going on, but I was assuming it was more of an altercation. The fact that someone has actually lost their life is really, really crazy," neighbor Nicole Pottroff said.

Police say McLinn could be in Sasko's four-door dark gray or blue 2008 Nissan Altima with Kansas "In God We Trust" license number AK149.

Investigators put out the information to law enforcement, hoping the car might pop up on a camera somewhere.

They say they have little to go on and little information about the missing woman right now.

The Lawrence Journal-World reported that police delayed releasing information on the homicide and the missing woman for 18 hours while waiting on a search warrant and crime scene technicians from the state to arrive.

Anyone with information about McLinn is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477).

Calls to Crime Stoppers may be made anonymously and callers with information may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
