DULUTH, MN (KQDS/CNN) - A store in Minnesota caused an uproar on Martin Luther King Day when it announced a special sale on social media.
The sign read, "MLK Day sale, 25 percent off everything black."
The owner said this is the fourth year she's done this kind of sale, but she's never gotten this reaction.
However, others say it's disrespectful.
"We did this out of admiration and celebration for somebody who did so much for the world, for black culture. Somebody we've admired grateful. It was done out of honor and we're very sorry that we hurt anybody's feelings," owner Rachel Mock said.
"It's the connotation of the color black in association with this particular observance is just not thoughtful and frankly possibly in poor taste," said George Ellsworth, who took a picture of the sign.
The store will not host this sale next year.
