(CNN) - Retail giant Walmart said it expects its fourth quarter earnings to be lower than previously expected and said recent cuts to the nation's food stamps program are partially to blame.
The cuts went into effect November first and come after years of expansion during the height of the recession.
Congress let the expansion expire, saving the government $5 billion.
Walmart said bad weather is also affecting its financial performance.
The retailer is expected to release its fourth quarter and full fiscal year earnings reports on Feb. 20.
