CNN) - A New York man is in custody after allegedly threatening former President George W. Bush.
Upstate resident Benjamin Smith was armed with a rifle, boxes of ammunition and a machete when he was arrested Friday in Manhattan.
A federal court complaint says Smith threatened to "kill, kidnap and inflict bodily harm" on Bush. He also professed a love interest in one of Bush's twin daughters.
Threats against U.S. presidents are a federal crime.
