Hundreds of jobs available at Jasper-based businesses

JASPER, IN (WFIE) -

Jasper Mayor, Terry Seitz, says hundreds of jobs are currently available at Jasper-based businesses.

The mayor's office says six area businesses, including Meyer Distributing, are currently looking to fill over 700 positions.

Officials say Jasper Engines and Transmissions, Jasper Rubber, and Stens Outdoor Lawn Equipment are among those hiring. As we reported two weeks ago, Masterbrand is also expanding in Ferdinand. Entrepreneur advocate Dubois Strong says a recent survey of area businesses revealed a potential 1,000 new job openings over the next three years.

On Monday, Jasper residents weighed-in on what makes the Jasper area a hotbed for job opportunities.

"I would say we've seen a lot of growth. In 2013, I think we really saw a lot of growth with job openings in this area," said Amanda Hadley with Spartan Staffing.

"Everything's locally owned. You know? Like, a lot of the factories and stuff around here. When I worked at Kinball Electronics, their logo was, 'Our people are our company.' They say everything's employee-owned around here. I think that makes a big difference," said Huntingburg resident, Christina Terry.

Dubois Strong says that three-year projection for job availability in Jasper is loosely based, but that it is a real possibility.

The companies currently looking to hire are:

Masterbrand Cabinets
Meyer Distributing
Stens Corporation
Best Home Furnishings
Jasper Engines and Transmissions
Jasper Rubber Products Inc.
