Many Western Kentucky schools have already called off for Tuesday.

Though EVSC is not one of them, they are warning parents there could be early dismissal.

The school system sent a note out Tuesday to all parents, asking them to talk to their kids about what to do if school is dismissed early.

Marsha Jackson, communications officer for the EVSC, says in her seven years working there, they've only let out early twice. But with the threat of severe weather coming in, they're prepared to do it to prevent students, parents and staff from having to deal with poor roads.

If EVSC does do early dismissal, buses will still run their regular routes, just earlier.

Any parents who wish to do something different than usual should send a note to school with their child.

Families 14 News spoke with say they're tired of the weather, but glad the district is keeping safety a priority.

"Their safety is the most concern for us parents, getting them home and safe, especially with the ice," say parent Jamie Riley.

As long as the schools serve lunch to the students, it is classified as a day so it won't have to be made up.

Jackson says the school will give families advanced notice through the alert system if there is early dismissal on Tuesday.

It's also good to note that the afternoon extended day centers will stay open until parents can come to pick up their children.
