Vectren on standby for outages due to ice

Slick conditions aren't the only problems you may encounter in this winter storm.

The snow has been falling for a few hours now, and if ice starts to form on the power lines, that will lead to outages.

So if crews need extra help, all Vectren would need to do is make a phone call.

Crews from across the region are prepared to go where it is needed to fix outages. Obviously, crews in the Tri-State will work in the tri-state if needed. However, in the past Vectren has sent crews as far away as Detroit to help other members of the network.

Vectren officials tell 14 News that the most significant recent event where crews came in to help here was the ice storm in 2009. Vectren says they will staff around the clock in case they are needed.

"We will continue to staff around the clock to make sure we have enough staff to respond to customer inquiries should we experience a high number of outages," said Natalie Hedde with Vectren.

Right now, crews are on stand by. Vectren is reporting no outages throughout their coverage area.

Kenergy is not a part of that mutual assistance network. They too are reporting no outages.
