Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police officer was allegedly assaulted during an overnight arrest.

Police went to detain a driver on Lewis and Robertson streets because they suspected he was smoking marijuana.

Police say the driver, Fredrick Owens, started fighting the officers as they tried to put him in handcuffs.

Owens allegedly kicked one of the officers repeatedly in the chest.

Police say they had to put Owens in a leg restraint to get him to stop.

Owens has been booked into the Metro jail on assault charges.

There's no word on the officer's condition.
