SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A little more than 10,000 customers remained without power in the AEP SWEPCO coverage area Wednesday morning.

Outages in northwest Louisiana and East Texas peaked at more than 22,000 overnight, with most of them in Caddo Parish. As of 6 a.m., there were just under 6,000 customers with no power in Caddo Parish Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for the utility company says a circuit serving 4,000 customers went out around 9 p.m. No specific cause was given, but viewers reported hearing sounds and flashes of light in several areas of Shreveport typical of blowing transformers.

SWEPCO said outages were possible throughout the night as long as weather conditions continued with freezing rain, which can weigh down power lines and bring tree limbs down on top of them.

There are no estimates immediately available on repair and restoration times. Click here for the latest customer outage numbers from AEP SWEPCO

SWEPCO's power outage report number is 1-888-218-3919, available 24 hours a day. Customers also can report outages online and on mobile devices at SWEPCO.com. Customers can look for outage updates on SWEPCO.com and Facebook.com/SWEPCO.
