GDOT gearing up for ice, dangerous roads

Posted: Updated:

The Georgia Department of Transportation said their trucks started 12 hour shifts bright and early at 8 0'clock Tuesday morning.

Nearly 300 employees are on call and almost 22 hundred tons of salt is ready for the road. Still, they urge people to stay off the roads. If you have to go out, look out for salt trucks.

Cissy McNure with the Georgia Department of Transportation Spokeswoman said, "We've asked people to not pass the GDOT trucks. Follow at least 100 feet behind a GDOT vehicle."

Officials also said, if you come across a traffic signal that isn't working, treat it as a four way stop.
