DESOTO COUNTY, MS -
(WMC-TV) –  An 11-year-old weighed just 56 pounds at the time of his death, investigators say. Horn Lake police and the DeSoto County District Attorney's office announced the arrest of the Tyler Raines' father and step-mother Wednesday morning.

Valleybrook Cove is reeling from what happened at the Raines residence.

Neighbor Cheryl Barbee remembers when they moved in about six months ago and she first met young Tyler Raines and his stepmother.

"I said, 'Well, how old is the little boy, 7 or 8 years old?' She said, 'No, he's 11.' I said, 'Well, he's awfully small,'" said Barbee.

Tyler's stepmother then told Barbee that he was a picky eater.

The boy was found dead in a bathroom at his father's house last Thursday. His father, Tommy Raines and his stepmother, Amanda Raines, are now accused of murder through "felonious" child abuse.

Police and prosecutors in Horn Lake, Miss. say Tyler weighed just 56 pounds when he died, which is in the bottom 5 percent of his age group.

"I can speak personally. Shock, horror. I don't think anybody that saw that child will ever be left unaffected," Assistant District Attorney Steven Jubera said about the state of the boy's body.

From the courtroom to Valleybrook Cove, heartache over the death of Tyler Raines.

"It scares me. It breaks my heart. And I've cried," said Barbee.

Family members told Action News 5 that they fear the child was abused.

Rebecca Gaines is related to the boy's family. Gaines said her family members saw the child's body at the funeral home and are having trouble forgetting those images.

"She told me that it looked like he had two black eyes, and she said it looked like he had cigarette burns on his face, and she said his arms looked like they had been branded," said Gaines.
