Pearl Police arrest man after standoff

Posted: Updated:
PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An armed man was in a standoff with Pearl Police on Cecil Drive Friday night. The man was threatening suicide and was armed with a handgun.

Pearl Police spokesman Jake Windham says police set up a perimeter around the  house. At one point, police fired three shots at the man when he held up his gun in a threatening manner, but no one was injured.

Police took 57-year-old James Glen Hughes into custody. He's now at UMMC.

Homeowner Barbara Sherman says the man's gun was not loaded.

She says Hughes threatened to kill himself because he was depressed after a cirrhosis diagnosis.
