Pets saved from 'house of horrors' placed with other groups

Posted: Updated:

Pets rescued from East Tennessee will be moved to organizations across the country this weekend, Animal Rescue Corps said Friday.

The animals will be transferred to placement partners in the Midwest and Maryland, as well as two local rescue groups, said Michael Cunningham.

Animal Rescue Corps has been caring for the animals since Feb. 15, when 73 dogs and two cats were removed from an animal rescue group operated out of a filthy home in Hamblen County.

Authorities said two women who ran the "Puppy Patch" organization now face animal cruelty charges in connection with the case.

Since opening an emergency shelter in Lebanon, five more dogs have been surrendered to ARC from people who had been providing foster homes for Puppy Patch, Cunningham said.

ARC worked to rehabilitate the animals and provide veterinary care.

The rescued cats have already been given to New Leash on Life in Lebanon, Cunningham said.

Dogs that are not moved out of state will be picked up by New Leash on Life and Nashville Pittie.
