Chad Watson shares his emotional story

Posted: Updated:
MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

For the first time since the deadly fire, Chad Watson shared his story on Sunday afternoon.

'The Celebration of Live' started around 2:00 p.m. at Felix Martin Hall behind the Muhlenberg County High School West Campus. The packed roomed sang songs of worship and praise before Chad took the podium to speak.

He spoke about that night when his family's home caught fire, killing his wife and eight of his children. Only him and his daughter, Kylie, survived. He shared a story of him and Kylie running in circles that night of fire, trying to ease burning pain on their skin.

14 News Reporter Jess Raatz says Chad ended his speech by reading a Facebook post from his late wife, Nikki.

A large crowd was on hand to listen to Chad's story and made sure he left the stage with a standing ovation.

Chad Watson and his daughter, Kylie, are still recovering from their injuries. Their home in Depoy was torn down earlier in the week.

Jess Raatz will have more coming up on 14 News at 5.
