Condition of North Olmsted patrolman upgraded to serious

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

Officer Jack Justice's condition is improving.

He's been upgraded from critical to serious condition at MetroHealth.

Justice is a patrol officer with the North Olmsted Police Department.  

While off-duty he was involved in a two-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of on Saturday, March 1, 2014  Liverpool Township.

Authorities allege 23-year-old Dalton Phillips of Columbia Station was driving a 1992 Dodge Ram truck northbound on Station Road when he went to make a turn but instead drove off the side of the road.

Phillips tried to correct himself but veered left of center, striking 43-year old Justice. 

Phillips' vehicle flew off the roadway, struck a ditch and flipped over.

Phillips was transported to Southwest General in Middleburg Heights.

Justice was Life Flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he underwent surgery and Sunday, March 2 his condition was upgraded to serious.

Sergeant Miner of the North Olmsted Police Department told 19 Action News Justice has been with the department for 14 years and was making his way home at the time of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation with the Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
