16-year old girl dies, two others in vehicle transported to hospital

SOUTH EUCLID, OH (WOIO) -

Families are in mourning after a fatal afternoon accident in South Euclid took the life of a teenage girl.

According to Sergeant Joe Mays the accident happened right around 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014. 

He tells 19 Action News a Pontiac Grand Am was headed eastbound on Telhurst Road when the driver lost control and hit a tree and then a telephone pole. 

A 16-year old teenage girl died instantly, according to Mays. 

Two other teens in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle isn't known. 

Two of the teenagers are from South Euclid. 

The other is from another local community; officials aren't saying which one at this time pending notification of family members.

The investigation will continue. 

Sergeant Mays says the department does not know at this time if drugs or alcohol played a part. 

There weren't any other vehicles involved.
