SWANTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A truck ran a red light and hit a school bus with students on board Monday morning in Swanton, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at the intersection of Airport Highway and Main Street in Swanton. Several students were on board the Swanton Public Schools bus at the time of the crash. Swanton Superintendent Jeff Schlade says some students and the bus driver suffered injuries in the crash, but none were seriously hurt. Schlade says the injuries consisted of bruises and scrapes.

The bus driver and the driver of the truck were taken to a nearby hospital.

Schlade says school busses are built to absorb the impact of an accident like this and minimize injuries.

"If you were able to see any of the remnants of the accident, the busses are built like tanks and they're built for that reason for the safety and protection of the kids. The bus took most of the brunt of the accident, actually the pick-up truck took most of the brunt of that accident," said Schlade.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
