BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

As guests walk into the Biloxi Visitors Center, they are given a dose of what Mardi Gras is all about.

From the sparkly crowns, to the elaborate royalty costumes; visitors who may be unfamiliar with the Mardi Gras culture can learn the basics here. The center even shows a video that tells what it is like to be a part of a krewe.

Many guests like Lynda Hansen were wowed by all the decorations.

"The clothes here for the king and queen are fantastic," Hansen said. "I really love them."

Hansen and her husband, Jeff Bedford, are from Australia and are excited to learn all about Mardi Gras and its history.

The couple had no idea it was carnival season until they arrived, but they did not waste any time before they joined the crowds in screaming, "Throw me something, Mister."

Jeff Bedford said, "We have watched the children's parade earlier today and it was just a lot of fun seeing all those kids having so much fun. They were so generous. I mean, we must have picked up ten pounds of beads."

"I didn't realize that's what went on to that extent," Hansen said laughing.

Neither did first-timers William Harding and his daughter Cerys.

"No, no we haven't experienced anything like it," said William.

The Hardings came all the way from Whales just to experience Fat Tuesday.

When asked about their favorite part of Mardi Gras, Cerys Harding responded quickly, "Catching all those beads!"

Her dad had a different answer. "Seeing all the floats," he added.

The unique festivities keep revelers like Charles and Debbie Fritz coming back from Canada year after year.

"Oh yeah, we like it. It's a fun thing to do," Charles said.

"We came with our granddaughter one year," Debbie Fritz said laughing. "She was teasing me on Skype about me getting knocked over because people attack you trying to get beads."

Despite the craziness that comes with the season, these foreigners agree that Mardi Gras is something everyone should experience at least once.
