Card sleeve protects your information from identity theft

Posted: Updated:
WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

New technology is making it easier for thieves to steal your identity, but the Wood County Sheriff's Office is working to put a stop to it.

As technology advances, so does the way thieves try to steal your information. It can happen without you even taking your debit or credit cards out of your wallet.

That's why the Wood County Sheriff's Office is giving away card sleeves called credit shields. They protect cards from radio frequency identification (RFID) skimmers. A special alloy finish on the inside of the sleeve protects your information.

"All your livelihood can be taken from you with the click of a button, or a question that's asked over a telephone," said Chief Deputy Eric Reynolds. "You give certain information and all your life savings and retirement could be stolen."

To keep your information safe, you can pick up a credit shield from the sheriff's office.
