Former volunteer coach at Aiken High pleads guilty to charges

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

An Aiken man will spend 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday to charges related to the July assault of a woman.

Derek Randolph Brooks pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to the Aiken County Solicitor's Office.

The incident happened on July 12, 2013 on Newberry Street in Aiken, deputies said.

At the time of the crime, Brooks was a volunteer track coach at Aiken High School, according to the solicitor's office.
