ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County students could soon be able to see a doctor without leaving school.

Monday night the school board heard from representatives with tele-health.The company's technology allows doctors to use the Internet and remote equipment to examine kids who might not be able to make it to a doctor's office. Turner County Schools currently use a similar system.

"That same child gets treatment at school, if you're talking about a minor ear ache, antibiotics can be easily called into the pharmacy, mom and dad picks that medicine up, start administering it to the child," said Sherrie Williams, Executive Director, Tele health.

The board gave tele-health the okay to start researching which doctors in the area would be willing to participate.

They hope to have a pilot program in place at one Dougherty County School by the beginning of next school year.
