WEATHERBY LAKE, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities have located an 86-year-old woman missing from Weatherby Lake near Kansas City.

The Silver Alert issued for Anna Gibson was canceled Tuesday morning after she was found safe. The Weatherby Lake police issued the alert late Monday.

According to police, Gibson drove to Platte City Monday night and asked for help there because she was disoriented.

Some people helped her, and she spent the night in a hotel. As she was putting gas in her car Tuesday morning, someone recognized her and called police.

Deb Urbanaik has lived next door to Gibson for the past 20 years, says she was the one who called police when she noticed she never came home from her doctors appointment.

Police say neighbors keep a close eye on Gibson because of her condition. Urbanaik checked her house at 5 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. She called police when Gibson never returned.

Family, neighbors and authorities are concerned for the woman's safety because she has Alzheimer's.

She was last seen in a blue 2005 Chrysler Town and Country mini van at 7601 NW Eastside Dr. in Kansas City.

Gibson left her home to go to a doctor's appointment about 10:45 a.m. and hasn't been seen since. Weatherby Lake police confirmed with her doctor that she did show up for her checkup.

Her doctors office is located near 72nd Street and I-29. It should have only taken her 10 minutes to get home.

Gibson's guardian is her nephew. He is out of town on business right now so neighbors have been checking in on her to make sure she is OK.

Urbanaik said that Gibson couldn't find her way home from the grocery store a few weeks ago but found a police officer who escorted her home.

Urbanaik said her family was trying to convince her that it was time to move to an assisted living center, but Gibson was "fiercely independent."
