MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF)- Some in the Grand Strand are trying to spruce up spring business. While there are some events already set, like the St. Patrick's Day celebration, boardwalk business owners have other ideas.

The Oceanfront Merchants Association wants to slide in more spring events on the calendar, right at the time of year when the number of people visiting the Grand Strand starts to grow. Most of the spring business tends to fall on the weekends, so there are plans to host events that will keep the crowds at the boardwalk.

Business owners want a way to cater to those early tourists before the summer gets here.

"There's a lot of people coming down," said Chris Walker with the Oceanfront Merchants Association. "A lot of people are contacting us, wanting to know what we're doing for them on March 15th or April 12th, when they're on vacation. So we just want to kind of continue what we do."

The events would be planned for popular visiting days like Mother's Day weekend and Easter weekend. The Oceanfront Merchants Association will present these ideas at the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation's retreat Wednesday at 2 p.m. The hope is to get the spring effort started in the next couple of weeks.
