(Toledo News Now) -

As the winter storm approaches, road crews are once again revving up to hit the roads.

Theresa Pollick says how the Ohio Department of Transportation will handle the roads depends on the storm's components. Timing is everything, according to Pollick, especially with a system like this, which is expected to begin with rain and turn to snow. She says on Tuesday night, crews will keep a close eye on the storm and monitor it as it comes through the area.

"Later this evening, we're going to have some crews out, and then we'll go into 12-hour shifts with full crews beginning at midnight tonight across the entire eight-county district here in northwest Ohio," explained Pollick.

Although drivers in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are now accustomed to this harsh winter weather, Pollick wants to remind drivers to slow down and give plows the room they need to get the work done.

Other driving tips:

-Allow extra time to get to your destination

-Maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the traffic ahead

-Pay close attention to bridges and overpasses, as they are often the first to freeze over
