KKK flyers found in multiple Chesterfield neighborhoods

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Neighbors across Chesterfield are upset after KKK flyers were dropped by their homes overnight Monday. Police reported flyers dropped in the Bexley, Chester Grove, Long Meadow, and Kendale Acres neighborhoods.

"It's disappointing that we're still having to deal with this," said John Hart, who manages property in the area. "You know, this isn't going to accomplish anything."

There have been six total reports of KKK distributions since the year started, including the Craddock Point and Carters Mill neighborhoods.

"To go around teaching your kids or teaching people to hate people or terrorizing people for no other reason than their color or creed or you know, nationality or whatever," said Michael Jamison. "I mean, it's upsetting."

Jamison says he's most disappointed, because of his 3-year-old daughter.

"I didn't think when she was born this kind of stuff would be still going on, but I mean, I don't know," said Jamison. "Hopefully that will die out and nothing will come of it."

The flyer doesn't show who distributed the information, but the text in the flyer claims the group is non-violent and that it is not a hate group "as some of you believe." It lists a 24-hour Klan line to call.

Many neighbors say the literature is just not welcome near their homes.

"Please don't come back," said Caroline Duvall. "Just leave your stuff - keep your own things and don't be spreading it around if that's the way you feel."

Police say the mailings are not illegal in the form they were distributed, but they do appreciate a call so they can stay informed about what is going on in the community.
