TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler Police are still investigating conflicting reports about the suspect who shot a teenager Friday afternoon.

Officers say that the victim of the shooting is 19-year-old Gregory Rolling. Police say Rolling was shot in the forehead, and the bullet exited through the top of his head, but it appears that he will survive. He was taken to Mother Frances Hospital to undergo surgery. Friday evening, a hospital spokesperson said Rolling was stable.

"Oh, Lord. I couldn't believe it was him," said Jerri Hall, Rolling's neighbor.

Neighbors on Kennedy Avenue say Rolling grew up in the area and was living in the apartment where he was shot.

"He has been here... I don't know how long he has been here, but I've liked him ever since," says Hall.

The shooting happened just after noon at the apartment complex at 710 South Kennedy Avenue. Investigators say the shooter walked into the unit where the teen was living, shot him and then fled on foot.

"The ambulance came, and they took one guy away. He kept saying that he worked there and that they know that he worked there and he had been shot," recalls Raeanne Williams who lives on Kennedy Avenue.

According to police, Rolling was slipping in and out of consciousness when he described the shooter as a Hispanic male with short black hair, approximately 6'0 to 6'1 and weighing 180 to 190 pounds.

However, witnesses on scene stated that they saw three black males with guns at the victim's apartment. It is unknown who the suspect or suspects are. The circumstances of the shooting are still being investigated and three witnesses were taken to the police department for interviews.

"We don't have any witnesses that can tell us why he was shot," said Tyler Police Detective Andy Erbaugh.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1000 or Tyler Crime Stoppers at 903-597-CUFF (2833).
