A man was shot dead on Tuesday in Buncombe County, Lt. Randy Sorrells said in a press release.
According to Sorrells, just after 5 p.m., the sheriff's office received a 911 call about a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest on Old Buckeye Cove Road.
John Gardner, 54, died at the hospital after he was shot in the chest, deputies said.
Sorrells said the incident appears to be the result of a family dispute.
He said the investigation is ongoing and deputies have not filed any charges in the case.
