LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) -

Livingston Police officers arrested a 51-year-old man on a felony motor vehicle theft charge Wednesday after he allegedly had another man's car towed from the town's Walmart to a local recycling center, where he sold it for scrap.

Bart Thomas Moore, of Livingston, is still being held in the Polk County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of theft between $1,500 and $20,000 and a parole violation charge. His bail has been set at $15,000.

According to a press release, a Livingston Police officer were dispatched to the parking lot of the Walmart located at 1620 West Church Street on March 10 in regard to a stolen vehicle. When the officer spoke to the owner of the vehicle, he or she had learned that the vehicle had been left in the parking lot because it was broken down.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was last seen by the owner on Feb. 28 and that it had been allegedly towed by a local towing company at Moore's request. When LPD officers made contact with the tow truck driver, the person stated that Moore said the car belonged to him and produced a bill of sale that later turned out to be fraudulent.

The vehicle was towed to a recycling center, where it was sold for scrap.

The investigation identified Moore as the suspect in the case.
