It’s a heavily debated issue that will come to a vote on the August ballot. It’s called "Right to Farm" or Amendment 1.Many farmers say it would protect them from too much government regulation, but other locals say it would keep the government from protecting the environment.

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Federal investigators said Holyoke resident Javier Gonzalez was on his way to Texas to buy a large shipment of cocaine.

Gonzalez was pulled over by state police Tuesday on River Road in Agawam following an investigation. Authorities said this operation has been going on for more than seven years.

Inside the car carrier they say they found $1.17 million in cash. Authorities claim Gonzalez, who is the owner of JGL truck sales in Holyoke, was making trips to Texas every few months to buy cocaine.

The drugs were stashed inside hidden compartments in specially modified vehicles on the trailer.

Police also raided his home on Brown Avenue Tuesday, but won't say what they found inside.

Friday in Federal District Court the judge allowed Gonzalez to go free on $1 million bail. Under conditions of his release, he will still be able to work, but he will have to show proof of earnings.

Authorities said Gonzalez had an accomplice, Jamil Roman of Chicopee who was distributing the drugs. He was arrested and investigators found $350,000 in cash inside his home.

There were about two dozen supporters in court Friday for Gonzalez. His family and his attorney declined to speak about the case.
