Credit union coming to town of Terry

TERRY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There are 23 Hope Credit Unions across Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Here in Jackson Hope Credit Union is located on Terry Road. There's also a location inside of the Jackson Medical Mall.

Now the credit union is expanding to Terry, Mississippi which lost its only bank back in January.

The announcement of the new hope location was announced during the credit unions annual membership meeting Saturday, where WLBT's Maggie Wade spoke as the guest speaker.

The new financial institution will open in mid-May in the old Regions Bank building in Terry.

With the town being without a bank, it has caused lots of inconvenience for residents there.

Hope Credit Union officials hope there expansion will make a difference.

"We're getting calls from mayors and supervisors across the mid south who are concerned about their banks closing. And again when those banks close payday lenders check cashers charge what should be criminal rates move into those neighborhoods and we think those people deserve better and we're going to try to fill those needs," said Bill Bynum, CEO Hope Credit Union.
