BAKER, LA (WAFB) -

Police have made an arrest in the Baker shooting that killed three teens Friday night.

A 16-year0old black male is being booked into the EBR Juvenile Detention Center on 3 counts of 1st Degree murder, 1 count of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and 1 count of Illegal Use of a Firearm.

Police have not released the suspect's identity.

Three teens died after a shooting that happened during a birthday party at the Baker Civic Center.

Baker Police Chief Mike Knaps held a press conference on Saturday, March 29 to announce the latest development. The shooting happened Friday around 11:00 p.m. during a private party.

"It is a privately operated facility," Chief Knaps explained. "It was rented for a private birthday party/turn up party. They had a paid attendance. They had a lot of DJ's there, a lot of rappers there. They had a big show they were putting on.

"During a particular dance, there was an altercation and then the shooting."

Authorities say  a girl, 15-year-old Marcell Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene. Three additional teens were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Two males,  15-year-old Kendal Dorsey and 18-year-old Diontrey Claiborne, died at the hospital. A 19-year-old is currently recovering in the hospital.

"Our hearts are always deep when there's a homicide, but especially when it involves children," Chief Knaps said. "This is a tragedy for the entire parish."

During the press conference Chief Knaps revealed there were at least two private security guards present during the event, and adult chaperons were also in attendance.

"They really needed the police department there, or the sheriff," Chief Knaps said. "If you're going to have this sort of party for your children where it's posted on social media, you need to have strong security.

"If we had been working security detail, we would have had no less than four officers posted there in uniform," he later added.

Officials estimate that there were between 50-100 people at the party when the shooting occurred. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is assisting Baker Police investigators with the process of interviewing potential witnesses.

"We feel confident we will be able to identify the person or persons responsible for this act," Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. "We hope to bring this to some kind of conclusion shortly."

Officials say the incident is still under investigation.
