ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr announced Tuesday, April 1 that two men have been sentenced on methamphetamine-related offenses.

Caleb McDaniel, 21, of Murphsyboro, Ill. and Matthew Harris, 22, of Gorham, Ill. were sentenced as a result of pleas in Jackson County court.

According to Carr, on September 7, the two men, as well as another, were inside an automobile which was stopped by Jackson County deputies. During the stop of that vehicle, deputies say they noticed several items within the car that were related to the manufacturing of meth, including tubing, stripped lithium battery cases and starter fluid. They got a search warrant for the vehicle, and found other items related to making meth.

Carr said one of the defendants told officers that they were in the process of starting a meth cook when they were stopped by deputies of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Harris pleaded guilty to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

McDaniel was sentenced to four years in the IDOC, his sentence to be served as impact incarceration.

A third person in the vehicle, who Carr said was not involved in the actual making of meth, pleaded guilty and was given probation.

This case was investigated by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Assistant State's Attorney Mark Hamrock prosecuted the case.
