MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Fire Department responded to a call, on Sunday, about a fire at the John Knox retirement tower on Narrow Lane Road.

Fire department officials confirm that when they arrived, smoke had filled most of the tower at which point firefighters began evacuating the residents, and then began to ventilate the building in order to clear the smoke.

It was later discovered that the smoke was the result of a failed electrical transformer, and there was no fire located in the building.

The fire department was able to assist in evacuating all residents to a secure location while they were working to clear the smoke. There were no injuries related to the incident.
