(WFIE) -

The deadline to file your tax returns is tomorrow, April 15th.

For e-filers, that means it must be in by 11:59 p.m. on April 15th. For those mailing in paper returns, they must have an April 15th postmark. Anything mailed by the last scheduled pick-up time at your post office will receive that postmark. Everything mailed after the last pick-up time on April 15th will receive an April 16th postmark and be considered late.

The United States Postal Service recommends sending your return by certified mail service. With this service, you can check to make sure your return makes it to the IRS. If it somehow doesn't arrive, you'll have proof you sent it.

You may also want to go inside to make sure you have the right amount of postage on your envelope. The 49 cent or  forever stamp will cover any envelope up to one ounce. That could be an envelope with an E-Z Form or maybe a couple sheets of paper inside.

If you have a lot of supporting documents and your envelope is bulky, you may want to go inside to check the weight and buy the proper postage.
Your tax return will be sent back to you if the postage isn't sufficient. If you can't get it back to the IRS with an April 15th postmark, that will count as missing the deadline.

If you know you're not going to get your return in on time, you should file an extension. If you owe the Internal Revenue Service any money, you will be charged interest on what you owe for missing the deadline. The good news is, you won't have to pay the five percent monthly interest charged to those who owe money, miss the deadline and haven't filed an extension.
